The first high school in Chauncey was organized in 1904 in the old Washington Building on Mound Street, which burned in 1932. It was a third grade high school and offered a three year course. The Washington Building had two rooms and a hall, which were used for classes. The first graduating class, the class of 1906, consisted of two members. In 1907 a class of eight graduated.
In 1914, Chauncey High School received a first grade charter. The Lincoln Building, now the center building of the three, was constructed for the rapidly growing high school. In 1914 there was an enrollment of 65, approximately half of which were freshman. The Washington Building still housed grades 1-3.
In 1924, the Roosevelt Building was erected exclusively for the use of the high school. In 1935, the Jefferson Building the third and final building on Mound Hill, came into view. The new building was used for grades 1-3, the high school gymnasium-auditorium, and the automotive shop. The old gym in the Roosevelt Building was made into two class rooms and a library.
Chauncey's stadium was added to the athletic department in 1948 and the field house in 1950.
There were no other additions until the new Dover Building was construced in 1965. This building houses grades kindergarden through fifth. Itis located to the east of Mound Hill directly across from the stadium.
Chauncey-Dover united with the Athens City School system in 1964 in order to establish a new Athens District High School.
During the sixty-three years from 1904-1967 over 1,650 students have graduated from Chauncey-Dover High School.
